2026 Fan the Flames for Christ

1. Can we get from Muddy Mattresses with leaky walls in a Seminary Dormitory to …

2. A catalyzing movement in Indonesia producing new disciples and churches? How can this happen, you may ask?

3. In the 2019-22 timing, many of you responded and prayed and many of you donated funds to make a new dormitory possible at the Theological Seminary in Manado, Indonesia. Students were moved out of their sub-standard housing and into a brand-new building. Thank you and praise God for your response. As a result, many of those students have now graduated and become part of …..

4. The Lighthouse in the Country of Islands, a new ministry led by Indonesians and focused on Indonesia wide. You helped make this possible. It proves that what God starts in one direction grows and multiplies, and in this case, many times over. Edwin and Helmi Karwur have been at the forefront of this ministry and Edwin is Chairman of the Board and Director of this new mission to the people of all Indonesia

5. Let us start by giving you a short update on Edwin and Helmi Karwurs’ Indonesian Mission, and why we need you to consider helping them with their current Personal Support Deficit of $1700/month, by contributing a monthly amount of what you can, towards this amount. We will explain their need in detail.
In January 2023, following Edwin’s time as President of the Seminary in Mando Indonesia, Edwin and Helmi Karwur, along with several former seminary students and staff began a new and much expanded Indonesian ministry called, Mercusuar Persada Nusantara (MPN) the Lighthouse in the Country of Islands.

6. MPN focuses on sharing the light of Jesus among unreached people groups, marginal groups (e.g. those in prisons), or nominal Christians who have not responded in repentance and faith to Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.

7. MPN’s motivation? In 1970 Christians represented about 10% of the population, meaning over 114 million Indonesians were outside the Kingdom.

8. More recently, in 2025, Christians are still about 10 –11%, but the population has grown such that the 90% of non-Christians now number over 284 million. There are 239 people groups with no Christian witness at all. God has much work for us to do in the islands of Indonesia and we need your help!

9. MPN’s God-sized Vision is to see everyone saved. In 2026, the team is planning on sharing the Gospel with 10,000 people – that’s the population of an entire town in Canada! They are praying that they will find people with spiritual hunger and start Bible study groups, leading to the planting of 500 new churches in the next 15 years.

10. At this time MPN totals 22 members which include the leadership team, interns being trained on site, and practitioners fully engaged in reaching out to the people around them.

11. The team has recently taken on five new interns, training them how to share the Gospel and how to bring believers together into fellowship groups. These interns do speak the language of Indonesia, but they will be assigned to areas of the country, many of them remote areas, with a different culture than what they are used to, and with local dialects and in some cases dangers. They need prayer as they train and adjust. They need the Karwurs and others to be
alongside them, which means higher expenses. The following three expense categories are specific to the Karwurs, which have resulted in their personal support deficit this year.

12. Member Care Expenses
The Karwurs need your help in this critical part of their ministry. The missionaries are far from their homes in a new culture and doing a difficult task. Edwin and his team need to increase their essential member care to them. Member care to them, means doing face-to-face visits to the missionaries which requires costly travel. The Karwurs need increased funding to provide ongoing and emergency member care. These visits require Edwin and Helmi together to travel since the wives and children of these missionaries need care Helmi can best provide, along with Edwin’s teaching updates and care to the husbands and families when they make these all encompassing visits to their missionary practitioners. As a result, this need has increased their Personal Support Funding Deficit.

13. Seminary Courses Expenses
In order to find recruits, Edwin and the team are now teaching missions in four Bible colleges. This activity builds team relationships with these Colleges and opens the door for potential new missionaries to be recruited to work in the MPN mission field. This activity increases Edwin’s Personal Funding Deficit to cover expensive cost of travel and materials

14. Personal Expenses
The cost of living has gone up in Indonesia as elsewhere, and there are increased personal relocation needs for the Karwurs, as they serve in this key leadership role. With the above three expense categories, the Karwurs are now considerably behind in their personal support. We are asking for your help in ending their current 2026 deficit of $1700/month. This amount has been reviewed and approved by the Fellowship International office.

15. To Donate: Go to the Karwurs’ Fellowship page through this link or by scanning from your phone and click on their GIFT BASKET button and donate the monthly amount to the Karwurs, you are able to do. You will be blessed for your contribution in eliminating their deficit and funding this amazing God-Sized ministry. Just like the building of the dormitory, one church or one family could not do it all, but a collection of the family of our amazing Fellowship can do it together by each monthly contribution donation.

16. Please pray for the Karwurs’ ministry and the elimination of their $1700 monthly deficit. Pray for the MPN team as they carry the Gospel to dark places. Pray for God’s Kingdom to come in tens of thousands of churches in all the 239 people groups of Indonesia. We thank you in advance for helping with this need for the Karwurs.
