Summering in Sarnia

06/12/2014

Here is Sarah's latest blog entry. To follow Sarah's life and travels, click here.

I got some really good advice today. I thought this summer would be a great time of preparation for me for GlobeTREK but the farther into the summer I get the more I realize I don't really know how to prepare. Other than logistics like getting visas and changing cell phones I don't know how to spiritually and mentally prepare for an adventure this big.

I was out for coffee with one of my pastors and I told him this. His response was, "There isn't much you can do beyond stay close to God and just experience it."

He makes a good point. So this summer my goal is to keep my heart focused on God and nothing else. Easier said than done. I have all these great ideas about what I want GlobeTREK to be and what I want camp to be this summer and then I find myself distracted by anything. Friends, family, baseball... all are able to distract me from the real goal of getting close to God and being used by Him. But I'm learning.

And God has provided the most wonderful person to learn along side of! Jessica is my co-director at camp this summer and I couldn't have asked for a better one! She is organized where I am not, thoughtful when I overlook things, cheerful when I'm grumpy, and so in love with God it's admirable. Neither of us knew the other very well before starting work this summer but it didn't take us long to figure out we loved each other! As we grow and learn in our job together we also lead a Bible study and memorize scripture together. I will be forever thankful for her and I'm so glad we are in this together!

Please pray for Jess and I as we lead camp that we would lead with diligence and have wisdom to deal with the different situations that will arise. Also pray that I would stay close to God and fall more in love with Him.

This will be the first year in four that I've "summered in Sarnia" and I could not be more excited! I get to hang out with old friends, go camping, see my dog, spend time at our beach, read books for fun, and get ready for the most incredible adventure of my life... as long as I remain close to Him, and get ready to "just experience it."
