STATEMENT OF FAITH
Temple's Statement of Faith is a summary of our key beliefs. Here it is:
STATEMENT OF FAITH
- We believe in the divine, supernatural, inspiration of the sixty-six books of the Bible, comprising the Old and New Testaments, as being the very Word of God, absolutely free from error in the original manuscripts, as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inerrant, and therefore a complete, infallible, and divinely authoritative rule of faith and practice and the true basis for Christian fellowship.
- We believe in the being and unity of God; existing eternally in three distinct persons in the Godhead as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. All three are equal in attributes, power and glory, yet having distinct offices, functions and personalities.
- We believe in the absolute deity and perfect humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ; that He has two natures, divine and human united in one person. We believe in His virgin birth by the Holy Spirit; in His voluntary death and the shedding of His blood for the forgiveness of sins; in His literal bodily resurrection and ascension; in His present high priestly ministry in heaven; and in His personal, visible and future return to the earth.
- We believe in the absolute deity of the Holy Spirit. He is the one who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. To the believers, He is the agent in regeneration and sanctification. At the moment of salvation, He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling, gifting and sealing them unto the day of redemption and exercising the ministry of comfort and teaching.
- We believe in the direct creation of man in God's image and likeness by divine decree, as recorded in the book of Genesis, and not by evolution. The fall of man in Adam, and the consequent total corruption of all mankind, means that man now has an inherited sinful nature, is alienated from God, and in his natural state, is totally depraved.
- We believe that salvation of the sinner is not by works but wholly of God's grace through personal faith in the person and finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in the all-sufficient, substitutionary atonement providing justification by faith alone through the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. All the redeemed are kept by God's power and are secure in Christ forever according to the specific promises of God's Word.
- We believe that there shall be a bodily resurrection for everyone. After judgment for the just, the gift of eternal life in heaven, and for the unjust, a judgment and eternity in hell.
- We believe that there are only two ordinances for the church regularly observed in the New Testament. Baptism, which is the immersion of a believer in water, whereby they obey Christ's command and set forth their identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. The Lord's supper, which is the memorial whereby the believer partakes of the two elements, which symbolize the Lord's body and shed blood, proclaiming His death until He comes. This ongoing ordinance is a constant reminder of His sacrifice and the price He paid for our salvation. Therefore, each believer should do all in his power to attend each celebration of the Lord's supper to fulfill the biblical command, to fellowship with others of like mind, and to express thanks to God for His unspeakable gift.
- We believe in a church which is the Body of Christ, a community of believers who are united by the Spirit of God for the purpose of representing Christ in the world as they together worship, pray, serve and proclaim the good news about Jesus Christ.
